Mahaballipuram beach and its touristic importance




Mamallapuram is the other name of Mahaballipuram, which is one of the famous port towns of India. Situated on the shores of Bay of Bengal, it has got a coastline of nearly 20kms. This town has got much prominence because of scenic beaches near it. Golden Sandy beach is located on Mahabalipuram road at a distance of 58kms from the Chennai city. Many tourists hit this beach every year and get relaxed here. This beach is considered as one of the famous and renowned beaches in the state of Tamil Nadu. If you want to have sunbathing and want to be relaxed in the beautiful shores, this beach will be the best one to choose. Swimming in this sea is not at all recommended because of the reason that it  is rough.

Historical places and  monuments around this port  town make it more popular. Beaches present at Mahaballipuram are regarded as one of the oldest shore temples of South India. Shore temples near this port town date back to eight century. When you are on the way to beach at Mahaballipuram, there is a heritage place called Dakshinachitra, 28kms away from Chennai city. It is the place where exhibition of arts as well as crafts which includes traditional architectures. Visitors can also enjoy the performance of artists from Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, at this place. Crocodile farm near this town, is also one of the famous places attracting lovers of nature. One  can find nearly 5,000 crocodiles belonging to six different species, along with other reptiles. 

Those who come to this port town in the months of January and February can enjoy the Dance Festival conducted annually by the state government. Various kinds of classical dances along with folk dances are performed during this festival, which turns as real fest for the dance lovers. There is no need to worry about the accommodation options while in Mahaballipuram, because many accommodation options are available at varied prices.
