Attractive places in and around Marina Beach





Marina Beach is located in Chennai city and is situated along the Bay of Bengal. It is one of the important places of Chennai city having touristic importance. Food stalls and shops are seen in more number at this beach. People of all ages can enjoy and relish here because of morning walk, lovers’ spot, joggers’ track, aquarium, memorials and statues located here.


It is regarded as one of the longest beaches in India with a coast line of 12kms. There prevails a hoax that this beach is the second longest beach in the world, but no credible confirmation is available for this rumor. Tourists can enjoy improved  landscapes, walkways and lighting arrangements at this beach. Important places and structures present near this beach are Marina Cricket Ground, Dr. Annie Besant Park, Vivekananda Bungalow and others. Sculptures of Mahatma Gandhi and Victory of Labour are seen alongside of Marina beach along with statues of many Tamil scholars. Various kinds of entertainment and foot courts are located in and around this beach and they are drawing huge number of people regularly. This beach attracts huge crowds, and are seen more particularly in weekends. This beach regularly hosts many state functions since it can well accommodate many number of visitors. Pony rides along the beach side, attracts the attention of children. Shopping at this beach can be a nice experience since many kinds of items are available. Many local vendors can be seen selling shells, glass baubles, kites, fruit juices, and others. 


It is not advisable to go for swimming in this sea, because of the strict ban imposed on the same. Life guards are not available here. Strong waves and rough nature of the sea are the main reasons behind imposing ban on swimming at this place. Enthusiasts can enjoy swimming at Marina Swimming pool and Anna Swimming pool located nearby.
